Discovering a Holiday at Home

On several occasions we have expressed the importance of vacations, and the importance of switching off from work and having some time out to recharge the batteries. For many, the idea of a vacation is jetting off the island to a big city, or a mountainous landscape; escaping the warmth for a chillier climate, or discovering one of the sister islands. I discovered something over the bank holiday weekend that resulted in me feeling as if I had been away for a week – my first staycation!

Having not been off the island for several months, and feeling as if I deserved a break, I took a trip up to the East End for 3 glorious days. The end result was the same, but perhaps my batteries were even more charged because I didn’t run them down with plane journeys, time changes, or stress about which clothes to pack for a different climate! I discovered another part of this beautiful island, I spent time chatting with friends, reading my book and sleeping, and I was able to come back to work feeling refreshed and ready to go again!

Don’t get me wrong, vacations are amazing; but if you haven’t already, try out a staycation – there is a lot to be said for it.
