Discovery Day 2015
Discovery Day, 18th May 2015, is much more than just another public holiday, it is the day when we celebrate the discovery of the islands by Christopher Columbus during his fourth voyage on 10th May 1503. Records show that on that day, Columbus’ son Ferdinand, made note of sighting two small islands filled with tortoises, and they were consequently named Las Tortugas.

Cayman Turtle Farm Island Wildlife Encounter will host a Barbeque Family Fun Day on Monday, 21st May 2015! Admission is just CI$5 for adults and $2 for children and opening times are from 8:00am until 5:00pm.
The Mastic Reserve on Grand Cayman protects part of the largest contiguous area of untouched, old growth dry forest remaining on the island. Although Grand Cayman is only 76 miles square, with its highest point only 60 feet above sea level, its rocky terrain and dense undergrowth makes much of the island’s interior fairly inaccessible.
The Mission House historic site includes a traditional Caymanian two story home situated on an area of dry and wetland frequented by a variety of local wildlife. The Mission House takes you back to an earlier time in Cayman’s history by recreating the living situations of the three families know to have owned the home.
Cayman Heart Fund will be having our 8th annual Discovery Day 5k Walk/Run on Monday, 18th May 2015.
It begins at 6:30 a.m. for walkers and 7:00 a.m. for timed runners and we expect it to wrap up by 10:00 a.m. Funds are being raised to purchase a greatly needed ambulance for the Health Services Authority.
Please come and support us! Entry fee$10 Adults and $5 Children (under 16) *Includes t-shirt for the first 250 entrants, snacks and prizes.
