Building Surveyor
Description
1. Overview
The Building Surveyor is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and structural integrity of government-managed buildings. Reporting to the MEP & Building Maintenance Manager, this role ensures properties are safe, compliant, and well-maintained. The position includes managing service requests, overseeing capital projects, and supporting regulatory and health & safety compliance.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct building inspections and manage preventative, planned, and reactive maintenance.
- Issue and monitor work orders; liaise with contractors/vendors for project delivery.
- Supervise major building projects from planning to completion.
- Ensure defects are addressed and works meet required standards and timelines.
- Maintain records, perform trend analysis, and prepare reports.
- Manage structural repairs, building refurbishments, party wall issues, and stock condition surveys.
- Support emergency preparedness and coordinate with external agencies.
- Ensure compliance with building codes, health and safety regulations, and risk management practices.
- Train helpdesk staff and, when needed, deputize for the MEP & Building Maintenance Manager.
3. Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Building Surveying, Construction, or Building Studies with at least 3 years’ relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of building maintenance, public/commercial property management, and defect diagnostics.
- Experience in managing capital projects and procurement processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; understanding of building plans and technical manuals.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to work flexible hours.
- Desirable: certifications in project management and health & safety; familiarity with COBie and drone operation.
