Temporary Assistant Manager

SteppingStones are delighted to be assisting the Cayman Islands Humane Society on a pro-bono basis in their search for an Assistant Manager. This is a varied and exciting role which is vital to the effective running of the shelter. Although it is a temporary position, there is potential for it to become a permanent role.

Overview
The assistant manager will be responsible for communicating with and supervising visitors, volunteers and staff as well as handling animals and helping out with animal care if needed. Working hours will be 7am – 4pm five days a week including Saturday plus every third Sunday (45 hours per week). The assistant manager is also required to cover the emergency phone for out-of-hours assistance on a rotation basis, one week in three.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Supervise animal care givers
  • Stock control and supply ordering
  • Organize routine maintenance of shelter
  • Help with the preparation of animals and paperwork for transfer overseas
  • Reception and community liaison
  • Supervise volunteers and community service workers
  • Accept animals and check animals out, completing all required paperwork accurately and ensuring the animal’s welfare is protected
  • Keep animal and people records up to date with any changes
  • Lock up at night
  • Errands including taking animals to other veterinary clinics and taking donations from the drop box at the shelter to the thrift store
  • Cover emergency phone and animal pickups
  • Other tasks as required

Essential requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must speak very good English
  • Trustworthy
  • Understands importance of animal welfare
  • Experience of working with dogs and cats
  • Accurate and timely record keeping
  • Willingness to uphold the shelters policies
  • Reliable
  • Data entry experience
  • Able to use Microsoft Office
  • Driving License
  • Must be at least 25 years old
  • Desirable: Book keeping knowledge

Qualifications and experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Experience of animal care, confidence handling dogs with behavioural issues
  • Physically fit and able to lift a minimum of 55lbs
  • Animal care certifications
