SteppingStones Recruitment & Training Ltd recently participated in the Careers, Education, Training and Jobs Expo 2010, hosted by The Chamber of Commerce at the Family Life Centre on Walkers Road. SteppingStones has always been an avid supporter of this event and has found it a great way to get out and meet the public and to identify candidates looking for work, career changes and/or progression.

As well as hosting a booth, SteppingStones presented three free seminars. The first interactive workshop concentrated on “Resume Writing” and was delivered by Ciara Neill. The session included valuable advice on how to prepare an effective resume, common mistakes to avoid, preparing cover letters and sending applications electronically. Participants worked through templates and were given one-to-one advice to assist them in creating their own resumes. This work shop was well attended and very well received.
The second workshop of the day, “Interview Success” was hosted by Lindsey Gordon. This workshop highlighted the importance of preparing well for an interview and gave essential advice on pre-interview research and preparation, how to conduct yourself through an interview and follow up tips. Participants noted that they gained a great deal from the seminar and took away supporting notes. Mr Phil Jackson, President of the Cayman Islands Society of Human Resource Professionals assisted with the interview success seminar and was able to share his considerable experience with participants and help answer individual questions.
The final workshop “Key Steps to Stand Out in a Tightening Job Market” was delivered by Milly Serpell, the Managing Director of SteppingStones. This session provided professional insight and advice on how to enhance work ethics, how to work effectively within different teams and with different personality types, and how to develop an attitude and approach that helps employees stand out in the work place. This was a new session, particularly relevant in the current economic environment and well received.
