New Year’s Career Resolutions

By Katie Schwandt

As the New Year looms, it’s that time again to start thinking about our New Year’s resolutions. As the clock turns to midnight on January 1st all of us can’t help but feel the start of something new and a new chance to cease the day. Ok…maybe on January 2nd we’re feeling more Carpe Diem-ish in-order to allow ourselves one more day of junk food and Netflix binge watching after a wee bit of champagne the night before.

A new year means new opportunities. A chance to get a fresh new look on what we want the year to look like and what we want to get out of it.

If you’re anything like me, on the top of my resolution list is fitness. Much like the previous three years, 2017 is the year I’m going to be in the best shape of my life. At least if I say it, it seems like I’m making an effort, right?!

But in all seriousness, something I feel very strongly about is making a commitment to my career goals and where I want it to lead me. We often forget that we can decide our own career fate. We spend 40 plus hours of our week working. Shouldn’t we be happy in all that time knowing that we’re keeping the focus on our end goals?

Terri Burns is a contributor to Forbes online and she has created a chart that assists in focusing on career goals for 2017. She implores chart go-ers to focus on long-term career goals. This will help, in not only your professional self in 2017, but improve your positive thinking and personal-self goals.
